9/14/08  Verona Eagles B Win Opener 18-0 over Cedar Grove.   
 
Head coach Gerald DeLuisi's 11 and 12 yr olds scored 2 T.D.'s in the first half to win the opener.  Linebacker Mark Bennett had an interception in the 1st quarter to set up the first score.  Frank Ferrari connected on a 25 yd. pass play to Mark Riggio who took it another 25 yds. for the score. 2nd quarter, Mike Cifaretto recovered a fumble with 2 minutes left in the half on their own 20 yd.line. Coach DeLuisi called a QB bootleg and Ferrari took it for 80 yds. for the T.D.  Pat Cummings made a key block on the play. 
2nd half action was lead by some hard nose running by Steve Kellner, Mark Riggio and Ryan Cariani.  Tailback Mark Bennett took one in
from the 35 yd. line for the 3rd score.  The offensive line had a great game controlling the line of scrimmage.  Lead by Mike Cifaretto, Brien
Liggio, Chris Luehs, Jim Crawford, and Bill Ferrari.   Defensive coach Ed Shield's defense shut down Cedar Grove's
offense the entire game.  There was some good tackling by Jim Crawford, Steve Kellner, Nick DePaul and Matt Riccatelli.  Defensive ends 

Matt Zebrowski and Bill Ferrari did a good job containing and sacking the QB.  This was a big win for Verona since they lost to this team 2 yrs. ago in the final playoff game.  The next game is this Sunday the 21st at Centennial Field at 2pm.

The Verona Eagles B-team improved their record to 3-2 with an impressive 28-0 win over West Essex. The eagle’s offense was led by running back Matt McKeown who scored three touchdowns. McKeown scored on runs of forty two, twelve and fifteen yards. McKeown was able to pick up large chunks of yardage behind the offensive line play of Billy Ferrari, Robbie Walsh, and Quinn Cummings. Alex Kaslander also scored a touchdown for Verona on a one yard handoff from quarterback Ty Zebrowski. The Eagle defense was outstanding not allowing a first down in the first half. The defense rallied around the big hitting of Stephen Kellner and Cameron Quiero. While defensive linemen Brendan O' Brien and M.J. Mughetto continuously made plays in the opponent’s backfield. Zack Carlee, Mark Bennett, and Tucker Freeman all made numerous tackles to aid in the shutout. The fate of West Essex was sealed late in the fourth quarter as "The Sack master" Billy Giuliano dropped the West Essex quarterback for a ten yard loss. The eagles take on Nutley this upcoming week.

 

9/29/2007 Verona Eagles vs East Hanover
The Verona Eagles B-team lost a though game this last saturday nite falling to East Hanover 19-6. East Hanover took a 13-0 lead into halftime. The eagles  came out of the break fighting as Matt Braschi recovered an onsides kick giving the eagles some badly needed life.After picking up several first downs the snakebitten Eagles fumbled the ball, one of six Eagle turnovers. The defense quickly created a turnover of their own as a Tucker Freeman hit jarred the ball lose from an East Hanover ball carrier and Alex Kaslander recoverd for the eagles.Verona quickly cut the lead to 13-6 as Matt Mckeown scored his fourth touchdown of the year behind the block of Brendan O'Brien.The eagles defense held tough led by Stephen Kellner,M.J. Mughetto,and Cameron Quiero keeping the game at 13-6 for the moment.The eagles were looking to tie things up when a tipped pass was intercepted and ran back for a touchdown by East Hanover extending their lead to 19-6.The eagles record falls to 2-2.
 
9/23/2007 Verona Eagles vs Florham Park
The Verona Eagles B-Team secured its second win of the season with an 18-0 victory this past sunday in Florham Park.The Eagles defense forced Florham Park to punt quickly behind the strong defensive play of Cameron Quiero,Spencer Koenig,Tucker Freeman,and Zach Carlee.The score was quickly 6-0 Verona as Running back Matt Mckeown crossed the goaline behind the block of Dylan Oranges.Florham Park was forced to punt on their next possesion as big defensive plays were turned in by Stephen Kellner and M.J. Mughetto.It wasnt long before Mckeown powered his way into the endzone again giving the Eagles a 12-0 lead.The Eagles first half scoring was capped off as Quarterback Ty Zebrowski found Alex Kaslander in the endzone to give Verona an 18-0 lead.The touchdown was set up by the first of Frankie Ferrari's two interceptions on the day.TheEagles moved the ball succesfully all game behind linemen Brendan O' Brien,Quinn Cummings and Billy Ferrari.They also recieved a big spark with reciever Matt Braschi making two remarkable catches.The defensive continued to dominate getting contributions from Matt Thompson,Billy Giuliano,Tyler Bruso and Hunter Grasso.
 
9/9/2007 Verona Eagles vs Cedar Grove
The defending back to back Super Bowl Champion Verona Eagles B-team had a thrilling come from behind victory this past Sunday over arch rival Cedar Grove.The first half was a defensive battle between the two teams.The Eagles defense was led by linebackers Alex Kaslander and Spencer Koenig and safety Frankie Ferrari. Although Verona was able to move the ball behind the blocking of Mike Ciffaretto ,Dylan Oranges,Quinn Cummings and Billy Ferrari they were unable to score thus the teams went to halftime with a 0-0 tie.Cedar Grove struck first in the second half taking a quick 7-0 lead.But the Eagles quickly answered as QB Ty Zebrowski hit reciever Matt Braschi for a 65yd touchdown pass.The extra point failed leaving the Eagles trailing 7-6.With under three minutes to play Zebrowski completed a 30 yd pass to tight end Zack Carlee to set Verona inside the CG twenty yard line.Three plays later running back Matt mcKeown took a toss right behind the blocks of Tucker Freeman and Robbie Walsh and rumbled into the enzone to give Verona the lead.The 2pt. conversion attempt was good giving Verona a 14 -7 lead. Verona's Cameron Quiero sacked the CG quarterback the next two plays as time expired.
